Incorporate the 2024 Summer Color Trends into Your Home or Wardrobe

If you don't know, now you know. Every year, Pantone Color Institute releases its color trends for the upcoming seasons and Summer 2024 is a bit confusing, all over the place, highlighting colors indicative of both Summer AND Fall.

Here's the good and great news!

GOOD NEWS: No matter the selected color hues, color can boost our moods and make us feel something. Primary orange?? Personally for me, primary orange, or in this case “Sun Orange” is NOT my favorite, especially if you’re singling it out and not toning it down with other colors. All I think about are brands that use the color orange like Fanta, Dunkin’ Donuts, Nickelodeon, just to name of few. But in fashion or in my home? Even I am surprised to find how I feel when you start to incorporate “Sun Orange” into a larger color palette. All of a sudden, I start to appreciate the color and can imagine a fun wallpaper with these colors, or a little eye catching table lamp sitting on top of a stack of books, etc.

GREAT NEWS: You can incorporate trendy colors with restraint and still make a big impact. Let’s take a look at these zingy colors and how we can use them in our home environments:

Chutney

The hot trend right now is a good velvet accent chair like this lounge chair from CB2. You can find some incredible deals on Wayfair, Article, Target, and other retailers in a variety of velvet earthy colors. Here are some to get you started:

Spicy Mustard

Always a popular color in home design, mustard yellow with it’s energy and positivity, is one of my faves. I’ve incorporated this pop of color in a sconce, a couch, and in florals. I’ve dropped the links to these client favorites below.

SCHOOLHOUSE | AFLORAL | ROOM & BOARD

Strong Blue

This bold blue is also a true, classic blue but often difficult to incorporate into your space since it doesn’t necessarily scream calm and soothing. But injecting this bright color into a dark corner or in this case a bathroom, can add an element of playfulness to a space.

Burnished Lilac

This chameleon of paint colors can instantly sooth an interior space whether its pulling soft pink in some rooms, white in others, and smoky lavender in the rest. Behr Dusty Lilac N110-1 is a perfect, lovely backdrop for a bedroom or bathroom.

Fiesta

This fiery red is one of my favorites to use for any summer get together. I’m not one to splash this bold red in my house, but that’s just me. Instead, I love to use red accents in my table linens, balloons and garland, and of course my flowers from

Tarragon

Green tile in every hue is popping up everywhere lately and these handmade tiles are rustic and nature-inspired, sure to evoke an inviting, organic, and relaxed feel. Question is, are you daring enough to add this color into your space?

FIRECLAY TILE | TILEBAR | ZIA TILE

Charlock

Did you know that Charlock is a wild mustard with yellow flowers, commonly found as a weed in fields and along roadsides? I would be careful to sprinkle this color into my space or my wardrobe. Definitely a tricky color for overall aesthetic and skin tones.

Sun Orange

Have you ever wallpapered the inside of your hall closet? Maybe your pantry? Why does a closet or pantry have to be so boring? Give it a little pizazz with wallpaper so it brings a smile and a bit of surprise when you open the doors.

HAPPY WALLS | WAYFAIR | LOVE VS DESIGN

Bistro Green

Painting your front door an unexpected color, just like the photo above using Behr In The Moment T18-15, is an affordable way to incorporate a trending color. Here are a two more green paint colors that you could try for a space in your home.

BM ESSEX GREEN | SW EVERGREENS

Horizon Blue

This color brings cheer to just about any space but where it can really shine is in artwork. This piece by Jodi Bodtke, taken directly from the beaches of Italy, is chock full of color and is a perfect example of using color to infuse personality into a space.
